AUXILIARY BOILER ALARM TESTING ONBOARD

Auxiliary boiler alarm testing onboard is part of the PMS (Planned Maintenance System) which is done on a monthly basis. Alarm testing is one of the important maintenance activity on board as it helps in keeping them in good condition and helping not to cause any kind of breakdown on the auxiliary boiler. It also helps in avoiding any hazards or accidents on the auxiliary boiler. There are many kinds of alarms which are to be tested on the auxiliary boiler which are mentioned below. Some of them also lead to the trip or shutdown of the auxiliary boiler. Testing of alarms for auxiliary boiler also helps in checking the calibration of the transmitter, probe or the float switch that it is working properly or not & it is triggering the alarm for the auxiliary boiler at the set parameter.

Low Oil Pressure in Burner alarm
Close valve to pressure switch in H.P. F.O. line
         Start boiler manually
         Alarm will sound
Re-open the valve to pressure switch

Low Oil Pressure in ring line alarm
         Run boiler manually
Switch stand-by Auxiliary Boiler F.O. Supply pump off
Switch running Auxiliary Boiler F.O. Supply pump off
         Alarm will sound
Restart before running pump and switch other pump back to stand-by

Flame Failure alarm
         Run boiler manually
         Pull out the flame eye
         Alarm will sound
         Insert flame eye

Boiler trip alarm
Switch standby Auxiliary Boiler F.O. Supply pump off
Switch running Auxiliary Boiler F.O. Supply pump off
         Alarm will sound
Restart before running pump and switch other pump back to stand-by

Low Water Level alarm (-160 mm)
Close valve before feed water valve
Close valves V8 (upper and lower) to differential pressure transmitter
Slowly open drain valve next to transmitter (near burner unit) on Low level side (left)
         Alarm will sound
Close drain valve and open valves again
Open valve before feed water valve

High Water Level alarm (+ 360 mm)
Close upper valve to differential pressure transmitter
Slowly open drain valve next to transmitter on High level side (right)
         Alarm will sound
         Close the drain valve again
         Open upper valve

Low-Low Water Level alarm (SB float level switch)
Close valve before feed water valve
Close lower and upper valve to SB float level switch
Slowly open drain under level switch
         Alarm will sound
First open lower valve again and than upper valve
Open valve before feed water valve

Low-Low Water Level alarm (PS float level switch)
PS level switch and the low low level from the differential pressure transmitter are connected in series. So set differential pressure transmitter below -160 mm and the drain the PS float level switch. Then the boiler will trip on the low low level alarm.

Low Steam Pressure alarm
Close valve before pressure transmitter on gauge board
Loosen nut on the drain valve
         Alarm will sound
Fasten the nut and open the valve again

Burner Motor Overload alarm
         Open cabinet
Slide test button on contactor (under transparent plastic) to the left
         Alarm will sound
         Press black RESET button

Oil Booster Pump Overload
Slide test button on contactor (under transparent plastic) to the left
         Alarm will sound
         Press black RESET button

High Oil Temperature alarm (Aconis)
         Take out PT-100 probe
         Insert into probe tester
         Set probe tester to 160˚C
         Alarm will sound on Aconis
Take probe from tester and insert in socket again

Low Oil Temperature alarm
         Take out PT-100 probe
Alarm will sound after a while on Aconis
         Insert probe in socket again

Burner Swing Out alarm
Unscrew the limit switch at burner door
         Alarm will sound
         Put switch back in place

High Salinity in Feed Water
Make sure the Feed Water Pump Stop By-Pass is switched to ON (otherwise Feed Water Pumps stops                                                           when alarm is triggered)
At the hotwell, set the alarm value to a lower setpoint
          Alarm will sound
Reset the alarm value to the normal setpoint

High Oil Content in Feed Water
Make sure the Feed Water Pump Stop By-Pass is switched to ON (otherwise Feed Water Pumps stops                                                           when alarm is triggered)
At the hotwell, on top of the Inspection Tank, open the cover of the sensor and   increase the sensitivity                                                         (yellow potentiometer) until the Red LED is off
          Alarm will sound
Reset the alarm value to the normal setpoint
