STARTING OF HFO PURIFIER ONBOARD
  • Check the level of oil in the settling tank and ensure that the HFO transfer pump automatic filling system is operating.
  • Check and record the level of oil in all fuel tanks.
  • Open the self-closing test cock on the HFO settling tank closing it again when any water is drained.
  • All valves in the HFO purifier system are to be initially closed.
  • Clean the HFO purifier feed pump strainers.
  • HFO settling tank quick closing suction v/v, HFO Purifier feed pump suction v/v, HFO Purifier feed pump discharge v/v, HFO Purifier inlet v/v, HFO Purifier outlet v/v, HFO Line return v/v to HFO settling tank. All of these valves are to be opened.
  • HFO Purifier feed pump cross over v/v, Purifier bypass v/v. All of these valves are to kept shut.
  • Check that the ALCAP system is operational and the control unit is working.
  • Ensure that the control air is available for operating the 3-way v/v.
  • Ensure that the HFO purifier brake is off and the bowl is free to rotate.
  • Ensure that the bowl is assembled correctly and the cover is secure.
  • Check the HFO purifier gear box oil level.
  • Supply trace heating steam by opening the necessary steam and drain valves. 
  • Start the HFO purifier feed pump. Oil will bypass the purifier, returning to the HFO settling tank through the 3-way control v/v.
  • Slowly open the steam supply to the heater.
  • Set the steam control v/v to the required set point.
  • HFO will now circulate through the heater returning to the settling point.
  • Open fresh water supply to the HFO purifier.
  • Switch on the power to the control panel of the HFO purifier.
  • Start up the HFO purifier.
  • Check for the correct direction of rotation and vibration during the speed increase period.
  • When the HFO purifier is up to speed (checking the ammeter reading has fallen to steady value), press the control panel START button for automatic control of the unit.
  • Adjust the outlet pressure.
  • Check the HFO purifier is operating correctly with adequate throughput and that there is no vibration.
  • Ensure that there is no abnormal discharge from the water outlet or the sludge discharge.
STOPPING OF HFO PURIFIER ONBOARD
  • Shut off the steam to the heater, allowing the unit to continue to operate for a short period.
  • Press the program STOP button on the control panel.
  • On completion of the sequence press the motor STOP button.
  • Apply the brake during the run down period.
  • Stop the feed pump.
  • Shut off the water and the control air supplies to the HFO purifier.
  • Shut all the valves to the HFO purifier.
